At the age of 29, Johan Galtung founded the International
Peace Research Institute in Oslo. At that time, no other institution
in the world devoted itself exclusively to the study of peace--though
many studied military strategy and arms development.
Today many universities and colleges around the world offer
peace studies and in 2005 China invited Galtung to give talks
about peace studies.
